Marianne + Aaron | A Classic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel Wedding | Banff, Alberta, Canada

Marianne & Aaron’s July Banff Springs Hotel wedding is the perfect example of a classic, elegant affair. So often an attempt at ‘simple elegance’ comes out feeling more like ‘bare’. You can take cues from this wedding as to how to create the perfect simple yet still elegant decor! Classic details included the a string trio for the ceremony, the beautiful Chuppah with floral garland, Marianne’s soft sheath gown,  a deep Blue Rolls Royce, and floral stationery from the Rifle paper company.

We also loved how they added some personal touches! The ceremony was presided over by two dear friends and written by Marianne & Aaron with Jewish wedding traditions woven throughout. The couple hired a mountie to greet their guests after the ceremony, a real treat for a group from the United States! Barry Shaw provided a jazz trio for swanky dinner music, and then picked it up in the evening with a with a full band – just perfect for a choreographed first dance and a lively Horrah!

We’ve planned soooooo many Canadian Rockies wedding timelines over the years, and we realised all the stuff we know as pro’s can really, really help when YOU have to plan a wedding timeline. If you don’t plan weddings for a living, there can be a bunch of things that you don’t even think of until you’re standing there in your dress, bridesmaids at your side, with no way of getting to the church! It’s these things that cause stress and mayhem on the day. And not just for you, but for your loved ones running around trying to fix everything! A solid wedding timeline is your saviour.

That’s why we’ve created a Timeline Consultation! We’ll really zone in with an hour of our undivided attention in a virtual meeting. We’ll go over your day from start to finish, including all the most common questions:

  • How much time do I need to get ready before the wedding?
  • Who picks up the bouquets?
  • How is Grandma getting to the ceremony?
  • How much time do we need for family photos? And how much time for bridal party photos? And for that perfect mountain backdrop shot?
  • What to eat for lunch (and when!)?
  • How to get around all these Rockies locations?
  • And how do you plan a wedding timeline, anyway?!

DIY wedding help with venues in Banff, Lake Louise, Canmore, Kananaskis and Emerald Lake Lodge

This lovely hand drawn map by Art & Alexander hints at the huge choices for destinations and venues in the Canadian Rockies.

Here’s a tad more info about all the goodies included in the DIY Planning Guide:

1. A comprehensive venue guide for weddings of 2 to 500, from inexpensive to luxurious, all based on our real experiences in these parts of the Canadian Rockies; (heads-up: this guide does include venue capacities, but it does not include pricing. As venue costs can vary with season, day of the week, capacity, catering and demand, we can’t include accurate details on pricing. We’re sorry, but we’d never want to risk giving you inaccurate details!)

2. A guestlist template detailing everything you’ll need from numbers and addresses to dietary concerns and booster seats (in excel);

3. A list of recommended vendors we trust, who serve these mountains and have proved themselves time and time again;

4. An uber-detailed budget template with cost saving ideas (in excel); and

5. A planning timeline made with Rocky Mountain Couples in mind. With big overviews down to nitty gritty details, and a handy checklist guiding you through the months before your wedding.

Most importantly, none of the vendors or venues paid to be included in this guide. So you can be sure you’re getting our genuine recommendations based on how they’ve performed at other weddings we’ve been involved in.

So if you want DIY wedding help to kick butt at this planning business, click here now for your DIY Planning Guide. It’s a steal at $247!

In the next few weeks we’ll be telling you how to get pro help with planning a timeline, nailing your budget, and having productive idea sessions to get your head around design, overall vision, destination questions and out-of-the-box fun! It’s all focused on mountain couples – our area of expertise and, we hope, your dream wedding destination! If you can’t wait, check out our DIY Options page here for a sneak peak.

Mike & Vikkie | A Vietnamese Mountain Wedding | Banff & Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada

Mike and Vikkie’s Vietnamese mountain wedding was a beautiful logistical challenge. We planned a JAM PACKED three days of events including three hair and make-up changes, four dress changes, two sets of family photos and two wedding day locations! And we only had three months to design and plan the whole thing!

The run-up was high speed, but Mike and Vikkie live in New York, both work very busy jobs, and know how to make things move! Plus they’re one of the sweetest, most well spoken couples we’ve ever met!

They wanted to blend the ‘western wedding’ representing their home in NY, with a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony, showing their heritage, all wrapped up in a mountain rustic style with big, open, airy views. So we started with photos at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and around beautiful Banff. Then we headed 45 minutes down the road to Lake Louise (past most spectacular scenery of any commute!) to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, for a Vietnamese tea ceremony.

We loved how they each honoured their families and their new spouses families through this tradition. We also loved that they had an ‘MC ‘ (not traditional) to explain what was happening for those of us who are, well, a little rusty with our Vietnamese traditions!! Finally, we adored the bright colours of the Vietnamese tea ceremony attire (inspired by Vikkie’s favourite flower, the sunflower, as well as tradition – see the photos below).

We closed the day down with a fun reception in the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise’s Victoria Ballroom, featuring a seven-piece band, full of pewter, silver and purple colours with shades ranging from lavender to eggplant, plum to violet and deep burgundy. Check out these amazing photos from Orange Girl Photographs.

Cool! We’re Featured in ‘Four Big Trends to Watch for 2015 Weddings!’

Cool news, guys and gals! We’re quoted in Special Events Magazine‘s new article, ‘Four Big Trends to Watch for 2015 Weddings!’ Awesome!

Special Events Magazine is a pretty epic resource for events industry folks like us. The International Special Events Society called it ‘the official and premier magazine of the special events industry in North America.’ Fancy stuff. (Seriously, though, these guys know what they’re talking about.)

So we were super excited that they wanted our opinion. They also talked with celebrity wedding planner Brit Bertino, the National President of the Wedding Industry Professional Association and a few other select interviewees.

Check out the article here to get the lowdown on Four Big Trends to Watch for 2015 Weddings!
