A Mountain Alice and Wonderland Wedding

From the very first time I met with Kory and Dusty, Kory had a very clear vision of a Mad Hatter-style Alice in Wonderland wedding tucked away in the mountains. They wanted something comfortable, casual and really, really fun. Kory shared her plans to create much of the decor (which was so cool). Dusty is a skilled carpenter, so I was really excited to see what these two would create. When she told me she was going make her own wedding dress though, I though she had perhaps gone a bit mad. DIY’ing your decor is one thing, but making a wedding dress with very little sewing experience? Crazy. Well, I was wrong! You’ll be amazed to see how awesome Kory’s hand sewn dress turned out! Thanks so much to Brian over at White Leaf Photographs for capturing this wedding so perfectly!

We worked with Kory and Dusty to plan a full weekend of activities. After the guests arrived and got settled in lodges, cabins, tents, and campers, we started the weekend off with a really casual BBQ dinner. Think campfire, beer, and a moose roast Dusty had caught himself.

The ceremony was set out in an open field next to a pond. Dusty built the beautiful arch, and the vintage couches were an antique auction find. Platypus Papers creates some paper roses made of books (they were in fact pages from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland), and dipped them in red paint to adorn the topiary trees. The aisle was lined with a oriental rug, and the signing table held trinkets like clocks, teacups, teapots, and small mad hats. The guests had lemonade and iced tea (it’s always tea time in wonderland!) and Kory entered the ceremony on a white horse (how cool is that?).

The time between the ceremony and reception was filled with a light lunch and lawn games. There was croquet (of course), ladder ball, a bean bag toss, and lots of ‘minute to win it’ style games directed by a top hat donning MC. Guests also had the chance to head over to a DIY hat station and make fun little top hats, or pop into the photobooth.

Kory and Dusty spent months (and months) creating a collection of old books, mismatched dishware, clocks, teacups and teapots. Kory also created table runners made from old book pages. We accented these items with some moss and babies breathe to create really fun centrepieces. The vintage couch and chairs moved over to the reception, and guests sat in an open air structure. The party went LONG into the night, with campfire conversations, dancing and general revelry!

An Emerald Lake Destination Wedding

We were so excited to work with Jessica and Adam! They came all the way from Illinois with an small group of guests to really explore and enjoy the Canadian Rockies! Jessica is a graphic designer, so working with her to find a colour palette and style was lots of fun. She had many fabulous ideas, and we worked with her to make them all a reality. We’ve seen lots of purple weddings, but this rich combo of different shades of purple and a deep raspberry has got to be one of my favourites. We were also thrilled to work at Emerald Lake Lodge. I don’t use this word very often, but this venue is absolutely magical (and yes, the lake really is that green!).

Thank you to Laura Jean from Deidre Lynn Photography for sharing these images.

An Elegant Banff Springs Hotel Summer Wedding

When you think of a really elegant wedding, you’ll often think of really muted colours. Creams, whites, blushes, maybe some metallic accents. Holly & Greg designed their wedding, and I think it’s the perfect example of how bold colour can still be really elegant. I loved the fun mix of navy, orange and gold, and it really worked in the super formal Mount Stephens Hall. And those sparkly table numbers are to die for, right??

A huge thanks to Kirstie Tweed of Orange Girl Photographs for sharing these vibrant images with us!

A Totally Unique Banff Destination Wedding

When Ben & Danielle came to me I could tell in the first 5 minutes that these two were looking to create a really unique and memorable experience for their guests. We all say that, but these two really meant it. I can’t tell you how excited I was to get started on this seriously non-traditional Banff wedding that was all about the guests, and the very happy couple. By the time this wedding weekend rolled around we had a 56 passenger bus, cowboy hats, gondola tickets, a mountie, and wooden wildlife silhouettes on the tables. Read on to see how we created a very memorable weekend for Ben, Danielle and 50 of their closest friends.

For Ben & Danielle’s weekend of mountain fun, we created three distinct events. We started off with a welcome reception at a cozy western property, that included a seriously yummy BBQ feast, lawn games, and an rockin’celtic band ( complete with a real Irish Mum who taught everyone to dance!).

For wedding day, we let guests know what to wear, and where to meet, and that was it! We kept all of the details top secret. While Ben & Danielle finished getting ready all of the guests got onto a motorcoach and began a sightseeing tour of Banff. They selected some of the most beautiful spots in town, including Bow Falls & Surprise corner. After lots of photo ops, the bus pulled up to Tunnel Mountain Meadow where 50 chairs sat in a perfect circle. The guests were greeted by a real Mountie in red serge, and two fiddlers. Ben & Danielle exchanged some of the most heartfelt vows literally surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Following the ceremony and some fun group photos, the guests hopped on a bus to do some more sightseeing. Danielle & Ben spent some time enjoying their brand new marriage and getting some photos. They also found some new friends to have lunch with! Once photos were complete, everyone headed to the Banff Gondola, to experience Banff at it’s finest. It have to note that I LOVE both the squirrel head and Ben & Danielle faces on sticks that popped up on the bus. From what I hear the bus was an awfully fun place to be that day!

We finished off the day with a whimsical dinner party at a local restaurant. Like most couples nowadays, Ben & Danielle really love good food! The evening had some fun woodland decor, with a real focus on good food, wine and conversation!

The day after the wedding everyone climbed back on a bus to do a tour of Lake Louise. I even arranged to have a few bears on the side of the road ( I’m kidding, I can’t really do that, but I’d like to take credit for the good luck!)

A Sweet Colourful Silvertip Wedding

Silvertip Resort offers some amazing views at its outdoor ceremony spot, and the Canmore reception venue boasts gorgeous wood beams that really feel rustic, but still elegant. Carolyn and Paul really loved being involved in the design component of their wedding. A few of our favourite touches included the multi cake table that was designed from a painting, the late night cereal bar to honour Paul’s favourite foods, the hand-painted stationery from Momental Designs, and the really fun coral, fern green and oatmeal colour palette!

We want to thank Orange Girl Photographs for sharing these beautiful images with us!
